from Wikipedia:

Thanksgiving Day is a holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. Thanksgiving is celebrated each year on the second Monday of October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. In Canada, Thanksgiving falls on the same day as Columbus Day in the United States. Because of the longstanding traditions of the holiday, the celebration often extends to the weekend that falls closest to the day it is celebrated.

Thanksgiving in North America had originated from a mix of European and Native traditions.[1] Typically in Europe, festivals were held before and after the harvest cycles to give thanks for a good harvest, and to rejoice together after much hard work with the rest of the community.[1] At the time, Native Americans had also celebrated the end of a harvest season.[1] When Europeans first arrived to the Americas, they brought with them their own harvest festival traditions from Europe, celebrating their safe voyage, peace and good harvest.[1]

there you have it

I have always known about Thanksgiving, but being a South African, living in Australia

we have never celebrated the day or the tradition.

but I think we should.

we should in some way, every year, or more often if you can

stop for a moment

be grateful

acknowledge our blessings

give thanks

I have so much

so very very much

for which I am so thankful

if I began a list I would surely forget something or someone

my life is so filled with love and joy and people that light up my life

and i have food and shelter and access to almost anything i could ever possibly need and some

i am so, so lucky

these images

are some that

fill my heart

with love

and thanks

and joy

every day Ryder gets the mail for me

he speeds down the driveway and empties the letterbox and diligently sorts through the pile

he decides who gets what, and most often the entire process takes much longer than it should

because he has to then open all the mail that is supposedly his

but yesterday there was clearly one for the girl in the house

a pink envelope

hand written, addressed to me

well it does not get better than this

Sarah – thank you from the bottom of my heart

for making my day!
